Success Stories - Paint
Problem:
How to deliver quality, high solids/waterborne paints thru
a state-of-the-art paint circulation system.
Solution:
Detroit Pump worked with Waukesha Cherry-Burrell to develop
a pump that met the quality standards required. Initial
high solids solvent borne and then waterborne paints were
developed to reduce VOC emissions from automotive assembly
plant paint shops and other high volume painting operations.
Conventional pumping systems could not handle the shear
sensitive nature of the waterborne paints without degradation
of finish quality and potential damage to the reflective
flakes in both types of basecoat paints. T his
can and does occur with these systems. Conventional systems
are also very inefficient in terms of energy usage. Waukesha
positive displacement circumferential piston pumps in conjunction
with air operated double diaphragm pumps, which are used
in general transfer, have demonstrated the solutions to
these problems.
Detroit Pump has delivered this pump technology to General
Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan,
Harley-Davidson, Honda, NUMMI, Saturn, and Toyota.
